The most common cause that the viewer fails to install is a too restrictive security setting for the browser. The settings below will ensure that no piece of software can be installed on your PC without you knowing about it. It will silently discard any unsigned components. For signed components (such as the arcticPigs viewer) you will be shown the certificate and will be prompted if you wish to install.
Internet Explorer 6.x and 5.x
If you are using custom security settings, your "ActiveX controls and plugins options" should be set as follows:
Note that a signed ActiveX control does not guarantee that it is not a virus or that it is not malicious. A certificate only guarantees that the code is created by the same company that owns the certificate. So all a certificate can do is ensure that no one can pretend that their ActiveX component is made by arcticPigs or Microsoft for example. If you have any doubt about the functionality of the component or the trustworthiness of the company mentioned on the certificate, do not install.
